Preview (partial song; no chords displayed)
This song took forever to figure out but I am pretty sure that this is the
way it is. I got most of the stuff that Sonnie plays in the background but
not all. This is enough to play along with the cd and sing the whole song.
This song is in 5/4 time, so if you don't have the cd, it is going to be
hard to learn. Use a metronome, it helps.
C# D F# C# G# A C# D
----------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------
--6-7-------------6-6------------------6-6--7-7-----
--6-7--4-4-4-4-4--6-6--6-6--7-7-7-7-7--6-6--7-7----- 2x
--4-5--4-4-4-4-4--4-4--6-6--7-7-7-7-7--4-4--5-5-----
-------2-2-2-2-2-------4-4--5-5-5-5-5---------------
Repeat that progression from the F# twice but don't palm mute the C# and D
that are written below.
If you play the octaves with the main guitar it sounds pretty cool. It is not the exact number of stums, but you can figure it out. I trust you.

B5 A5 G5 D5*
Standing at the peak where two waves meet
B5 F#5 D5* E5*
Are you just behind the other side of music?
B5 A5 G5 D5*
Peering like a flower never taught to grow
B5 F#5 D5* E5*
Someone fond of living always will remember
A s E D5* C#5* D5* B5* D5*
We are blessed, we endure
Riff at the end of each chorus:
-----------------------
-----------------------
---------------4--1---
--------4--------------
-----2-----5-----------
------------------------
The s is a slide. The guitar was REALLY hard to figure out because you
can't hear it very well. All of those chords are in there somewhere in
that order. Mess around with it and it will be all right. Chords with
a * are played on the fifth string.
E5* A5
One who travels knows too well
F#5 C#5* D5*
the panicked call from the truck stop
E5* A5
I held tight to the phone booth
F#5 C#5* D5*
envisioning last night and Car's last mountain drive
The song ends with:
-------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------
---------------4--1------------------------
--------4----------------------2--4---4----
-----2-----5------------4-------------4----
----------------------2-----5---------2----
