This is written in ".pro" format, so sorry for those that are using a regular text
editor - I know it can look confusing. But once you get through it, it'll work out
pretty well. After spending many hours on this song, I can tell you that it's pretty
much "spot on" to the original. ENJOY!
We rode into [F]town the [G]other da[C]y, Just [C/E]me and my [F]Daddy.[G] [C]
And I could[Gm] ride [C]next to [F]him on a [C/E]horse,
That of [Dm]course was not quite as wide.[G/B] [G/F] [C/E]
We heard a [F]crowd of [G]people [C]shouting.
There was that [Gm]man, t[C]hat my [F]Dad said he l[C/E]oved,
But to[Dm]day there was fear in his [Gsus]eyes.
Daddy [Eb]please, can't you do [Gm/D]something?
He l[Cm]ooks as though [Cm/Bb]He's gonna [Fsus2/A]cry.
You s[Ab]aid he was stronger than [Eb/G]all of those guys.
Why does [Ab]everyone [Bb]want him to [Eb]die?"
Later that [F]day, the [G]sky grew [C]cloudy. And [C/E]Daddy said [F]I should [G]go in[C]side.[C/E]
Somehow he [F]knew things [Gsus2]would get [C]stormy, Boy was he [Gm]right,
So after he [F]left, I [G]had to [C]find out.
I [C/E]was not [F]afraid of [G]getting [C]lost.
So I followed the [Gm]crowds,[C]
To a [F]hill where I knew [C/E]men had been [Dm]killed,
And I [Fm7/Ab]heard a voice come from a [G]cross.
And it said "[Eb]Father, why are they[Gsus4/D] screaming[G/B]
Father [Eb]please, can't you do [Gsus4/D]something[G/B]?
I [Cm]know that you [Cm/Bb]must hear my [Fsus2/A]cry.
I [Ab]thought I could handle a [Eb/G]cross of this size.
Why does [Ab]everyone [Bb]want me to [F/A]die?[C]
Oh, [Bb]when will I [F/A]understand [G/B]why?"
"My precious [F]son, I hear them [Asus4/E]screaming.[A/C#]
I'm [Dm]watching the face of the [Am/C]enemy beaming.[Am]
But [Bb]soon I will clothe you in [F/A]robes of my own.
But this dark [F]hour I must d[Asus4/E]o nothing. [A/C#]
Though I've [Dm]heard your un[Dm/C]bearable [Gsus2/B]cry. [Dm/F][Dm6/F]
The [Bb]power in your blood, de[F/A]stroys all of the lies.
